Beginning in January, the Center for Community Partnerships at the University of Wisconsin-Parkside will have a new identity: Continuing Education and Community Engagement.

According to Interim Executive Director Debra Karp, the new name better reflects the programs and services offered. "Along with a new name, Continuing Education and Community Engagement is expanding noncredit continuing-education courses and youth programs," Karp said. "The community volunteer program will include a group of UW-Parkside students who serve as AmeriCorps members in community organizations."

Growth and development within the organization created a need for an identity that better describes the mission and services provided. "The new identity does a better job of clarifying our services and better aligns with our intention to increase and enhance continuing-education offerings," Karp said. "The office will become more identified as the place to go if you are interested in attending or teaching noncredit continuing-education courses."

Along with the name change is the release of the spring "YourU" catalog. The catalog contains new courses including a fund development certificate, project management professional prep course for certification, and an online social media certificate. In addition, Continuing Education and Community Engagement is introducing new youth programs. This summer an "Environmental Explorers" camp will be presented in collaboration with the UW-Parkside College of Natural and Health Sciences.

While there will be changes, established and longstanding programs including mini courses, conferences, professional and nonprofit development, behavioral health, online learning, and Adventures in Lifelong Learning (ALL) will remain the same. Continuing Education and Community Engagement will continue to lead campus community engagement efforts such as the UW-Parkside VISTA Project, and community-based learning, among others.
