Memo from Office of Registrar UW-PARKSIDE GRADING POLICY CHANGE – EFFECTIVE FALL 2015
In order to maintain compliance with Federal regulations for administering Federal Financial Aid, a grade policy change was approved at Faculty Senate in Spring 2015 for implementation in Fall 2015.
Grades of "F" must now be accompanied by a number which corresponds to the student's last "week of participation" in the course. The last week of participation* is when the student last:
· Attended the course*;
· Submitted coursework such as homework or projects; or
· Took an exam or quiz either online* or in person.
*Documented evidence of participation is NOT logging on to an online class UNLESS there was active participation in the course.
Students need to show participation through submitting coursework, quizzes, participating in chats online, etc.
F grades must be reported with the number of the week the student last participated. For example: F0 - the student never attended, participated, or submitted any coursework. F7 – the student attended, through the end of a 7-week session. F7 – the student last attended, participated, submitted coursework during week 7 of a full semester (14 weeks). F14 – the student attended through the end of the full 14-week semester.
The grade will appear on the student's transcript as an "F" with no number associated. The number of the student's last week of participation is for internal purposes only.
F grades available are as follows:
· F0= No documented participation
· F1= No documented participation after 1st week
· F2= No documented participation after 2nd week
· F3= No documented participation after 3rd week
· F4= No documented participation after 4th week
· F5= No documented participation after 5th week
· F6= No documented participation after 6th week
· F7= No documented participation after 7th week
· F8= No documented participation after 8th week
· F9= No documented participation after 9th week
· F10= No documented participation after 10th week
· F11= No documented participation after 11th week
· F12= No documented participation after 12th week
· F13= No documented participation after 13th week
· F14= No documented participation after 14th week
· F15= No documented participation after 15th week
· F16= No documented participation after 16th week
Courses that do not extend the length of full semester should be reported using the same numbering as above. If the student is taking a 4 week course in the summer, the grade would be an F0-F4 depending on participation in the course. A 7 week course should be graded using an F0-F7 depending on student participation. Full semester courses are F0-F14 unless the course has an extended end date for student teaching or field work that takes them out an additional week or two (F15-F16).
