Construction updates from the
Wisconsin Department of Transportation

The work on I-94 North-South Central Segment project is under way. The prep work for the traffic shift took place July 19. There were several ramp closures used to complete the work. Crews plan to shift northbound traffic to the southbound side of I-94 after 9 p.m. on Friday, July 20.

Work will get under way with the closure of the northbound lanes on I-94 between WIS 142 and County G. The on-ramps at WIS 142, WIS 20 and County K will also be closed to traffic. The northbound lanes of I-94 will be reopened to traffic by 6 a.m. on Saturday, July 21 along with the on-ramp at WIS 142. The on-ramp at WIS 20 will reopen by 8 a.m. on Saturday, July 21 to allow for the completion of additional work. The northbound on-ramp at County K will remain closed until late 2018 when the next phase of the project will begin and the northbound lanes will be moved onto the new pavement. Once the next phase of the project begins, currently scheduled for December 2018, both northbound and southbound traffic will have three lanes available.

According to the I-94 North-South Freeway Project website, "The project will reconstruct 6.5 miles of freeway and all the structures within the work zone. Once all work is complete, there will be four lanes in each direction on I-94. WisDOT encourages travelers to plan ahead and use alternate routes when able. Access will be maintained to local businesses, watch for specialized signage directing customers. All work is weather dependent."
