It’s the Little Free Library

There has been a new literary craze sweeping the nation lately called The Little Free Library. Little Free Libraries have been popping up all over the world from California to Iceland! The Little Free Library’s motto is: “Take a book, Return a book.” It is basically a handmade box, built and decorated however desired, that contains a bunch of books. The idea is that when someone comes along and takes a book, they will return a different book in its place. This way, the stock keeps rotating and people can continue finding new literature.

Todd Bol of Hudson, Wisc, formed the idea in 2009. With the help of Rick Brooks of UW-Madison, the Little Free Library became an even bigger way to educate people and promote a love of reading. Their main goal was to create a sense of community and it is obvious that they have achieved this. Parkside is lucky enough to have Little Free Library #12293 and we hope that students take advantage of this opportunity.

The Little Free Library is located on the L1 level of the student center in the alcove across from the Parkside Student Government office.
