Campus Mourns Loss of Landen Brown

Published: May 30, 2017

The news of Landen Brown's death is devastating to the UW-Parkside learning community, the city of Burlington, and families across southeastern Wisconsin. Landen is the third UW-Parkside student we have lost in a car accident in the past six months. As a smaller campus where students and faculty know one another quite well, these tragedies are felt on a very personal basis throughout the university.

Landen was known to many because of his key role in Parkside Range, the university's contemporary a cappella group that performed at faculty and staff functions, community gatherings, student events, and at our recent spring commencement. While not everyone may have known his name, those who saw and heard Landen perform were undoubtedly impressed with his rare talent and distinctive beat-box style.

As we mourn Landen's loss, and the loss of other UW-Parkside students who have been taken from us and their families far too soon, we will hold in our hearts the joy each of them brought with their enthusiasm and energy.

I have asked our students, faculty, and staff to keep the families saddened by these losses in their thoughts and prayers.
