Tavyonia Davis and Sheronda Glass honored by UW System
SOMERS – The University of Wisconsin System announced that Tavyonia Davis, a junior majoring in psychology and sociology at UW-Parkside, has earned the P.B. Poorman Award for Outstanding Achievement on Behalf of LGBTQ+ People.

UW System also honored Dr. Sheronda Glass, UW-Parkside assistant vice chancellor of Human Resources and Employee Engagement, with an Outstanding Women of Color in Education Award.
Davis is originally from Milwaukee and graduated from Milwaukee Vincent High School in 2017. “Receiving this award allows me to be hopeful that I am making the difference that I set out to make,” Davis said. “I am proud to not only be a member of the community but also proud to have the ability to advocate and educate others about the uniqueness the community and its individuals possess."

Davis serves as president of the UW-Parkside Black Student Union; she is a student assistant in the LGBTQ Resource Center; and is a success coach in the UW-Parkside Office of Multicultural Student Affairs. In addition to her majors, she is pursuing a minor in ethnic studies and certificates in diversity and inclusion, child and family advocacy, and mental health skills.
Glass, who has directed human resources at UW-Parkside for the past three and a half years, said she is truly humbled to be chosen as an Outstanding Women of Color in Education Award honoree. “There are so many educators, particularly women of color, who have dedicated their lives to teaching, training, developing, gaining, and sharing knowledge for the betterment of self and others,” Glass said. “I am extremely honored to be recognized for my contributions and transformational work."
The Outstanding Women of Color in Education Award is an annual honor given to faculty, staff, students, or community members to recognize their achievements in advancing equity and inclusion for people of color within the UW System as well as communities across the state.

The P.B. Poorman Award is an annual award presented to LGBTQ+ people or their allies who have helped create a safer and more inclusive climate for LGBTQ+ people. The award celebrates the memory and legacy of Dr. Paula B. Poorman, a highly regarded faculty member at UW-Whitewater dedicated to improving the lives of LGBTQ+ people. Forty-seven LGBTQ+ people and their allies have received the award since it was established in 2008.
