UW-Parkside's Veterans Week Features “Cry Havoc!”

The week of Nov. 12 to 16, UW-Parkside will host Vet Week, a week of events and programming to support and inform about the issues and challenges student-veterans face. The sponsors of the events are V.E.T.S. (Veterans Evolving To Scholars), SUFAC, The College of Arts and Humanities, The College of Social Sciences and Professional Studies, the History Department, the Shakespeare Prison Project in the Department of Communication, Student Health, Counseling and Disability Services, Continuing Education, and Community Engagement.

The week will culminate in the performance of “Cry Havoc!,” a one man show written and performed by Stephan Wolfert. The performance is on Friday, Nov. 16 in the Main Stage Theatre in the Rita at 7 p.m. This show combines Shakespeare and military experience and the issues faced by veterans. Cry Havoc! has been performed across the United States and was performed off-Broadway in 2017.

Stephan Wolfert is an actor, writer, and director and is a veteran of the U.S. Army. Wolfert served as a Medic and Infantry Officer from 1986-’93. Wolfert left the military for the theatre after seeing a production of Shakespeare’s Richard III. More information about the performance is available on Wolfert’s website at https://www.decruit.org/. This performance is free and open to the public.

Other Veterans Week events include:

Monday, Nov. 12- ROTC on the bridge with snacks and information.

Tuesday, Nov. 13- African American and Native American History. This event will occur in the Walnut Room from 12:30-2 p.m.

Wednesday, Nov. 14- Military Benefits Q&A. This event will be held in MOLN 116 from 12-1 p.m. Snacks will be provided.

Thursday, Nov. 15- De-Cruit “Cry Havoc!” Workshop. This event will be held from 11 a.m.- 1 p.m. in Bedford Hall. Snacks will be provided. The workshop will be limited to 20 people on first come first serve basis.
