Trager Scholarship

Lillian Trager Endowed Scholarship for International Studies

Lillian Trager dedicated over 30 years to the University of Wisconsin-Parkside.  And she didn't stop there.  She worked for diversity and inclusivity in the local, regional, and national communities, as well as maintaining an incredible research effort in Nigeria.  She truly was a participatory scholar, engaging and improving the lives of so many people across continents.  In 2017, the University of Wisconsin-Parkside Library submitted Lillian's research and papers to the African Studies Collection currently at University of Wisconsin Digital Collection Center, where it could be invaluable to scholars.  As Professor of Economics, Farida Khan has said, "Researchers will use these materials to understand the phenomena and role of traditional markets as well as the ties that migrant communities maintain with their hometowns.  The three most important areas that her works would inform are the nature of informal activity, indigenous development, and migration.  All three are some of the most critical aspects of development studies in contemporary times."

UW-Parkside celebrated this important submission, as well as all the lives that Lillian has touched during a fundraising event in October 2017.  All donations for the event support the Lilian Trager Scholarship fund, so that students can carry Lillian's legacy forward.  The scholarship fund increased by 10% due to generous donations from Lillian's peers, past students, and friends.

TRAGER SCHOLARSHIP APPLICATION 2021-2022 Deadline is March 1, 2021
