The role of the media is essential in a democratic society. Yet, it can be difficult to evaluate the validity of news sources which influence our politics and opinions. UW-Parkside Communication Professor Jackie Arcy will explore the phenomenon of many Americans only listening to news sources that reinforce their views, oftentimes including misinformation. She will share different tools anyone can use to evaluate each media source to find the fiction in fact
Jacquelyn Arcy is an Assistant Professor of New Media in the Department of Communication. She has her Ph.D. in Critical Media Studies from the University of Minnesota, and her MA in Women’s, Gender and Sexuality Studies from the University of Cincinnati. Her areas of specialization are television studies, digital media and culture, media industries, and feminist media studies
