Nature's Books

Students will do guided reflections on nature, learn low-tech printmaking techniques, and make an accordion book with pockets. The goal is for students to learn new image-making techniques and create artwork in book form. The first evening students will work on observations in nature and idea generation. The second day will be print and binding demos as well as guided work time. Students will walk away with an accordion book filled with their own insights and imagery.
PLEASE NOTE: Students will need to bring a pencil and a notebook
INSTRUCTOR: Leslie Smith, UWP’s 2024-2025 Artist-in-Residence
Leslie Smith makes drawings, prints, and books based on her interest in mind, body, and the way we think about the self. She holds an MFA in Book Arts from the University of Iowa Center for the Book, an MLS in Library Science, and an MA in Spanish and Latin American literature from UNC Chapel Hill. She is currently an artist-in-residence at the University of Wisconsin-Parkside.
