Covid Stories

As we plan and work towards the recovery stage of this pandemic, it’s more important than ever that we share our stories, obstacles, and successes, both to work towards our own healing, and to shed light on this event for future researchers.

EXPLORE AND SHARE STORIES

Take some time to see what other Parkside community members have shared, and add your own stories to our collection. We are happy to accept a wide range of formats, including photos, text documents, audio and video files, and scanned or photographed art.

RECORDING OUR STORIES

UW-Parkside is proud to share a project inspired by StoryCorps to collect your oral histories and personal recordings. Set up an interview with UW-Parkside Archives staff or download the app and record in the privacy of your home.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

When you record a story, you can submit it to the Parkside Archives, the StoryCorps collection, or both! If you have other materials to donate, we will save the files in our repository. If you would like to share it in our online exhibits, you only need to grant us a non-exclusive right to publish. You will retain copyright.

We've created a guide to creating great recordings and included a list of questions from which to inspire you. Any COVID-related subject is encouraged. https://libguides.uwp.edu/yourstory/home

Anything you create that shares your experience of the pandemic. We've collected photographs, videos, podcasts, poems, and artwork. Do you have an idea for something unique? Email us at covid19.archives@uwp.edu.

The materials will be preserved in electronic form and used for future research and shared in our digital collection on the UW-Parkside website. You have the choice to have your materials included in the website immediately or to wait for a specific period of time.

Your unique experience and perspective will help future researchers understand the pandemic better. Avoid generalities and record your authentic experiences and honest thoughts and feelings.

Both are valuable, but details provide the best picture. A minute discussing what it was like to get your vaccine or your reaction when you found out a friend had contracted COVID-19 is better than a few minutes describing a whole year of events.

Records created by the University during this time will be collected, as usual, as part of our records management program. However, if there is anything specific a UW staff or faculty member would like to contribute, please submit it through our Documenting Covid project here, or contact the Records Manager, Rebecca Robbennolt (robbenno@uwp.edu).
