Tell us about you and your experience at Parkside.

I am a second-year Business Management major pursuing my bachelor's degree to become a Financial Advisor for a firm, and eventually start my own business. I am fortunate to be part of the Callahan Scholars program, which has had a significant positive impact on my experience at Parkside. Everyone is extremely helpful and optimistic, and I couldn't imagine having my college experience anywhere else. I chose Parkside because the Dean of Students at my high school mentioned that it has one of the best business programs in the state. Additionally, my dad, who is a firefighter, has been on the campus many times and has always told me how beautiful it is since I was a kid.

What impact has your scholarship had on you?

The Callahan Scholars Scholarship has had a significant impact on my college experience, alleviating financial stress, and enhancing my social life. The program connects me with a supportive group of peers and mentors who are ready to assist me with any challenges I may face. Additionally, the generous amount of funding I receive greatly reduces my financial burden, allowing me to invest more in my education and work towards graduating debt-free.

Furthermore, the scholarship has thoroughly influenced my social life. Participating in volunteer events and helping people in various situations has opened my eyes to many issues occurring in the city. I've seen how much people appreciate and need our assistance, and I have discovered how much I genuinely enjoy these experiences. Not only am I making a lot of connections, but I also feel better about myself and more motivated to take part in volunteer activities; it truly is always an amazing experience.

What is a specific goal that felt "out of reach" last year but feels achievable today because of the scholarship you received?

My goal was to graduate with Summa Cum Laude honors. A couple of semesters ago, I had a rough semester and earned a GPA of 3.6, which made me feel that graduating with a 3.9 or higher was impossible. However, since then, I have maintained a perfect 4.0 GPA.

The Callahan Scholarship has had an extremely positive impact on my performance, as I am able to work less due to the generous amount provided. Additionally, I have become more organized by meeting with the program's leader, Cassy, every two weeks to discuss my schedule and the steps I should take to be successful.

Overall, I am extremely grateful to be part of such a wonderful group of people, and I cannot express in words how much this program has positively affected my life both in and out of school.
