Dr. Amber Handy is Associate Vice Provost at the University of Wisconsin-Parkside. She leads the Center for Excellence in Inclusive Teaching & Learning and collaborates with colleagues from across the institution on diversity, equity, inclusion, and social justice initiatives to create a more inclusive campus climate and to improve student success. Previously, she was associate professor of history and founding director of the Kossen Center for Teaching & Learning at Mississippi University for Women, where as a Wisconsin native she never fully acclimated to the Mississippi summers. When the opportunity arises she enjoys getting back into the classroom to share her love of medieval and gender history, and the ocassional bad pun, with students.

Amber has extensive experience supporting an ethnically, culturally, and socio-economically diverse student body as both a faculty member and administrator, and has extended her work beyond campus by presenting and writing on active learning and diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives. She holds a Ph.D. in History with a doctoral minor in Gender Studies from the University of Notre Dame, an M.Phil. in Medieval History from Trinity College, Dublin, and a B.A. in Medieval Studies from Mount Holyoke College.
