The University of Wisconsin-Parkside currently has a vacancy for a Facilities Repair Worker in the Facilities Management Department. This position is a university staff, full-time, non-exempt, non-represented position. A six month permissive probation period will be required. Hours of work are 6:00 am - 2:30 pm, Monday-Friday.
At this time, the position is only open to current UW Parkside employees, including Project and Temporary staff.
This positionis an integral part of the facilities department for: maintaining grounds equipment; interior and exterior university buildings facilities and grounds, including parking and roadways, building exterior structures; performing snow removal; and maintenance of campus lawns and athletic turf. This position requires the ability to operate motor vehicles and specialized grounds equipment.
20% A. Maintenance of campus lawns and athletic turf
A1. Operate mechanical equipment, such as all riding lawn mowers, tractors, tractor implements (spreaders, posthole diggers and graders), 4 wheel drive dump trucks line trimmers, and irrigation equipment, as required to maintain healthy turf on campus and athletic fields.
20% B. Snow removal
B1. Perform snow removal of campus parking, roadways and sidewalks.
20% C. Maintenance of grounds equipment
C1. Maintain Grounds equipment including mowing, snow removal, tree trimming and pruning by performing routine regular servicing (oil changes, blade sharpening, repairing and changing tires, replacement of snowblades etc.) and repairs (worn and damaged parts replacement, welding, fabricating parts etc.)
10% D. Maintenance of parking and roadways
D1. Re-lamping exterior roadway, parking lot and walkway light fixtures
D2. Repair asphalt or concrete surfaces
D3. Stripe parking lots with paint sprayer
10% E. Maintenance of buildings and exteriors structures
E1. Repairs to building foundations including; concrete, masonry, footing repair, sealing leaks, etc.
E2. Maintenance of exterior walls including; repair of masonry, windows, doors, metal and wood siding, etc.
E3. Maintain storm water and sanitary sewer systems structures
E4. Fabricate, repair and install Signage on campus grounds
E5. Repair and maintain athletic irrigation system.
10% F. Moving of furnishings
F1. Disassemble, reassemble and move interior furnishings
5% G. Performance of other duties
G1. Maintain records and reports as required.
G2. Maintain shop and work areas in a clean, organized and safe manner.
G3. Provide instruction to other employees as necessary.
5% H. Miscellaneous duties as assigned
H1. Perform other duties as assigned.
H2. Campus clean up of all grounds buildings and set up of special events.
ESSENTIAL KNOWLEDGES AND SKILLS
Ability to safely operate equipment used on the job
Knowledge of construction equipment, such as skid steer loaders, backhoes, post-hole augers, pay loaders, power brooms, pressure washers and scaffolding
Knowledge of the proper and safe use of wood working equipment, saws, drill press, router, planer and joiner
Knowledge of the proper and safe use of metal working equipment, power shear, band saw, brake, welder.
Knowledge of hand and power tools used in the maintenance of buildings, grounds and equipment.
Knowledge of lawn and grounds care equipment such as tractors, tractor implements, riding and walk behind mowers, chainsaws, line trimmers, off-road utility vehicles, dump trucks.
Knowledge of snow removal equipment and techniques, such as highway plow trucks, snowblowers, salting equipment.
Frequent lifting up to 70lbs.
Squatting, bending, kneeling, twisting and lifting
Balance and coordination
Work performed above 30 feet
Work occurs under adverse weather conditions
Traverse planks and walkways
Extensive standing for long periods of time
Equipment to be used on the job:

1. Tools: (power or manual tools)
F - Drill, hammer, screw gun, sign making equipment.
O - Circular saw, table saw, hammer drill, router, radial arm saw, air compressors and related air tools

Paints, stains, solvents, lubricants, varnishes, epoxies and basic cleaning materials.
Fertilizers, pesticides, cleaning and automotive supplies.
3. Large Machinery: (includes vehicles)
O - Bobcat, front end loader, international dump truck, case loader, tractor and attachments, riding lawn mowers and aerial bucket truck
A valid Wisconsin driver license required
· 1 years' experience in construction or building or grounds maintenance or equivalent educational experience
· Must have prior experience with repair of typical grounds equipment and vehicles, such as snow plow trucks, mowers, pay loaders or tractors.
· Prior experience with maintaining concrete surfaces, such as sidewalks and parking lots.
Minimum hourly pay of $13.152 based upon qualifications and experience. The UW System provides a liberal benefits package, including participation in a state pension plan.
