POSITION SUMMARY

The Music Department at the University of Wisconsin-Parkside seeks applicants for a Tenure-Track Assistant Professor of Music Education, scheduled to start in the 2018-2019 academic year.

 

The successful candidate will teach a wide range of courses in Music Education, coordinate and oversee the Music Education curriculum, and serve as principal liaison between the Music Department and the Institute for Professional Educator Development within the university. Other responsibilities include: observing and mentoring music education students in local public schools with diverse student populations, teaching general education courses within the department, building and maintaining positive relationships with both area educators and within the statewide music education community as a whole, and leading departmental assessment activities. The successful candidate will engage in research and appropriate professional and/or creative activity which is expected of tenure-track faculty, contribute to the growth and development of the department through recruitment efforts, participate in a wide range of departmental and campus functions, and perform other duties as assigned.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

Required:

 

  • Ph.D. in Music Education (ABD May be considered)
  • Minimum of 3 years successful school (K-12) teaching experience
  • Record of scholarship via publications, presentations or other appropriate activities

Preferred:

  • College teaching experience
  • Demonstrated strong communication skills

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Teaching:

  • Teach a wide range of courses in Music Education
  • Teach general education courses within the music department
  • Coordinate and oversee the Music Education curriculum

Scholarly Research:

  • Establish and maintain an active research program

Service:

  • Serve as principal liaison between Music Department and Institute for Professional Educator Development
  • Observe and mentor music education students in local schools with diverse student populations
  • Build and maintain positive relationships with both area music educators and within the statewide music education community as a whole
  • Contribute to growth and development of the music department through recruitment fairs

Essential Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Applied knowledge of K12 music education
  • Applied knowledge of assessment procedures in higher education
  • Applied knowledge of technology in music education
