POSITION SUMMARY

The University of Wisconsin-Parkside seeks applications for a Tenure-Track Assistant Professor in Politics, scheduled to start in the 2018-2019 academic year. 

Responsibilities include teaching American Politics Courses. This position will teach 24 credits annually (4/4 standard fall/spring course teaching load) in the Political Science program. This position will teach classes in both the undergraduate and a planned graduate program as assigned by the Politics, Philosophy, and Law Department Chair. Opportunities to teach additional courses in the summer and winterim semesters may be available in both programs for additional compensation depending upon the needs of the Politics, Philosophy, and Law Department. This position is expected to establish and maintain an active research program in the American Politics field. In addition, the position will be expected to contribute service to UW-Parkside, the College of Social Sciences and Professor Studies, the Politics, Philosophy, and Law Department, profession and community including advising students in the Political Science program.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

Required:

  • Ph.D in Political Science or related field at the time of employment
  • Demonstrated ability to teach courses in American Politics

Preferred:

  • Candidates with expertise in a public policy sub-field

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Teaching:

  • Teaching courses including American Politics, American Institutions, and other courses as needed and within the competency of the candidate

Scholarly Research:

  • Establish and maintain an active research program

Service:

  • Service to Politics, Philosophy, and Law Department, College of Social Sciences and Professional Studies, UW-Parkside, profession and community including advising students in the Politics, Philosophy, and Law program

Essential Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Knowledge and ability to teach American Politics courses
  • Knowledge and ability to conduct research and scholarly activities
  • The position is not responsible for money or university funds of accounts which hold financial information
  • Ergonomic requirements: sufficient mobility and dexterity to move around office, campus and community. Ability to work with keyboard, mouse and monitor. Ability to attend meetings, workshops, seminars and conferences.
  • Equipment to be used on the job: laptop or desktop computer, printer, copier, projector, telephone including voice mail and FAX
