Beginning in 2018-19, the University of Wisconsin-Parkside is proud to offer unique positions for graduate students to gain experience as teaching assistants in the Health, Exercise Science, and Sport Management (HESM) Department while also working with the UW-Parkside athletics department. To be eligible, prospective candidates must be accepted into the Master’s Degree in Sport Management program.
Appointments are contingent upon maintenance of minimum credit requirements and good standing in the graduate degree program. The successful candidates will work a 10-month appointment (August 1-May 31) for the 2018-19 academic year with the opportunity for renewal of a second year. Each graduate assistant will receive an annual stipend of $7,500, paid monthly, and a scholarship of 50% of tuition (in-state or out-of-state tuition).
Candidates must submit a resume/curriculum vitae and a cover letter specifying which courses they could and would like to teach. Application materials can be submitted electronically to HESM Department Chair Bill Miller at email@example.com. Interested candidates are encouraged to apply by Friday, March 30. These positions will remain open until filled.
HESM Teaching Assistant Responsibilities
Selected candidates will teach up to three credits per semester in the fall 2018 and spring 2019 semesters. Courses will likely be undergraduate activity course offerings at the 100 level. However, the exact name, type and number of courses will depend upon the knowledge, skill and experience of the selected candidates.
A list of courses currently available can be seen at https://www.uwp.edu/learn/academiccatalog/2017-2019/hesm.cfm. Candidates can suggest additional activity courses they might be able to teach if they desire.
In addition to teaching assistant responsibilities, the selected candidates work approximately five hours per week as research assistants and in one of the following capacities within HESM and/or UW-Parkside Athletics.
