Position Summary

The Volunteer Program Coordinator, reporting to the Campus Activities & Engagement assistant director, under Student Affairs, identifies, recruits, and supports volunteer opportunity partners in the local community to develop volunteer opportunities for individual students and student organizations. The Volunteer Program Coordinator provides campus-wide programming and individual student counseling sessions to highlight the value of volunteerism as an experiential learning opportunity tied to career exploration and leadership development.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

30% A. Administration (2 hours)

  1. Assist unit with an annual unit assessment plan and leadership skills inventory. Include both learning outcomes and quantitative measures including, but not limited to, number of individuals and organizations involved, sites, hours and types of service.
  2. Monitor and track volunteer positions on Campus Connect.
  3. Attend unit staff and supervisor meetings.
  4. Give input and manage program budget within Segregated Fee guidelines.
  5. Performs other duties as assigned.

20% B. Outreach (2 hours)

  1. Identify, recruit and support volunteer site sponsors. 
  2. Refer students to volunteer and experiential learning sites matching student interests and organization needs.
  3. Assist employers and agencies with development and maintenance of a successful experiential education program.
  4. Communicate and publicize volunteer and experiential opportunities to students and staff.
  5. Keep current on assessment, implementation and best practices.

50% C. Programmatic (11 hours)

  1. Work with student program committees to coordinate and plan the following volunteer programs: Student Organization & Involvement Fair, Parkside Clean Up, and Make A Difference Day. 
  2. Coordinate volunteer or service-related programs to Weeks of Welcome.
  3. Co-advise the community service student organization group (three meetings a semester).
  4. Provide two programs each semester as part of the student organization and leadership series and one at each leadership retreat.
  5. Coordinate the Presidential Volunteer Service Award nominees each semester and Student Volunteer of the Month program (three times a semester).
  6. Coordinate and market service hour posting to Campus Connect software.
  7. Coordinate printed and electronic program and event promotion.
  8. Counsel students in areas related to successful experiences including but not limited to resume writing, interviewing, work ethics, conflict resolution and interpersonal skills.

Essential Knowledge And Abilities:

  • Knowledge of local community agencies and businesses.
  • Having worked with volunteers.
  • Program development and implementation.
  • Transportation of boxes with tools, shirts, etc. for program set up.
  • Extensive computer use.
  • Mobility and dexterity to reach and bend into filing cabinets.


Qualifications

Required:

  • Experience with working with community agencies and businesses.

Preferred:

  • Having worked in a higher education setting.
  • Bachelor degree in field related to sociology, business management, nonprofit management, organizational development or related field.
  • Experience with volunteer recruitment and retention.

 

Salary and Benefits

Hourly rate $14.25 per hour.
