The Alan E. Guskin Center for Community & Business Engagement is committed to providing professional development and support to faculty teaching community-based learning and internship courses.
If you are teaching, or planning to teach, a community-based learning (CBL) or internship course, the CBE team is here to help. CBE offers a variety of workshops, special events, and one-on-one mentoring to help you meet the diverse needs of Parkside students. The CBE team can:
- Help you connect with community partners
- Develop curriculum
- Provide templates/examples for assignments, syllabi, etc.
- Help you embed best practices into the course experience
- Provide well-rounded support to students engaged in experiential learning
- Connect you with a network of other faculty teaching high impact experiential learning courses

EXPERIENTIAL LEARNING WORKSHOP
Faculty are invited to participate in the annual Experiential Learning Workshop. In this interactive, hybrid workshop, participants learn about and apply best practices in experiential learning to community-based learning and internship courses. Participants have the unique opportunity to collaborate with and get feedback from colleagues from a variety of disciplines. A primary focus of the workshop is to create opportunities for participants to develop the knowledge, skills, and competence that will strengthen experiential education within their programs and departments.
The Experiential Learning Workshop addresses key elements of experiential learning, such as:
- Critical reflection
- Equity and access
- Assessment
- Processing feedback on your pedagogy
- Conceptualizing projects for the classroom
- Best practices for working with community partners
