MOVE-OUT OVERVIEW

As the end of the semester approaches students are responsible for making plans now to ensure they correctly move out by housing closing. As stated in your Housing contract, the Residence Halls and Apartments close for the semester the Saturday after finals at noon. Move-out must be completed before closing.

Once the Halls close at noon, staff immediately begin preparations to transition housing spaces for summer housing operations that start the following day. This means students who try to check out late will be unable to access their space after this time and will be assessed additional fees.

There are multiple move-out communications and resources available to you, including this web page, Ranger emails, hall bulletin boards, and floor meetings.

Students must move out within 24 hours of their last finals or the Saturday after finals at noon, whichever comes first. Students cannot checkout after this time. No late checkouts will be allowed.

HERE'S A QUICK 3-MINUTE VIDEO TO HELP YOU PREPARE!

MOVE OUT STEPS

Coordinate the cleaning of shared spaces with all the students you live with which includes cleaning, vacuuming, and packing.

Remove all personal items, wall art, and trash

Clean all surfaces including:

  • walls
  • ceilings
  • floors
  • counters
  • appliances- inside and out
  • bathrooms (in your space)

Furniture
Ensure all furniture and loft kits are in the room and set in their move-in arrangement.

  • Deloft beds
  • Place loft kit into the closet

Close all windows, turn off lights, and lock all doors when you leave.

There are two options for checkout. Students can complete an express checkout or checkout with a staff member.

Express Checkout
An Express checkout allows students to checkout at any time by returning their housing key(s) to the key return drop boxes at the Pike/Ranger Desk or the Apartment Computer Lab in Building 4. Students who choose this option do not review the condition of their space with staff upon checkout, so they waive their right to appeal damage charges.

Staff Checkout
Please schedule a checkout with staff at least 24 hours in advance. Staff's availability will be posted by their door. At the scheduled time meet the staff at your hall's front desk, or the Apartment Computer Lab. Staff will review the condition of your space with you and will collect your key(s).

Any charges for damages, removal of abandoned property, or additional cleaning in your space will be assessed by professional staff after closing and will be posted to your student account.
